In Grief & In Glory, Still…

One of my husband’s favorite gospel groups is The Collingsworth Family. One song of theirs called, “Great is His Faithfulness,” stayed on my heart through the end of last year, 2025, as our church closed out the year.

Part of the lyrics are, “Lift your head, morning is coming, there’s more to the story, don’t forget, in grief and in glory still great is his Faithfulness.”

In 2025, our church had celebrated our 20th Anniversary as a new church plant.

What a glorious celebration time we had of the faithfulness of God. In May, we had a big banquet at a wonderful restaurant in the hotel where we first started the church. We celebrated with all the works; blue and purple tablecloths, beautiful centerpieces, celebration pictures of the past years on every table, a great dinner buffet, a night of fun video clips and wonderful slides remembering and honoring all of our dear saints that went to be with the Lord.

Then in October we celebrated being in our church building for 20 years that was started in a small city. It was a glorious time. Hearts were touched as we testified and gave thanks for God’s faithfulness through the many years. In these 20 years, we  were not only partakers of His faithfulness, but we watched many lives come to Christ through our pastors’ missions’ trips all over the world, church services and outreaches, and discipleship in and through our church. While pondering on all of this I was reminded of the scripture in Colossians 2:6-7 where it says,… just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. I couldn’t help but give God thanks as I thought about his faithfulness to the many newcomers through the years that came and received Christ as their Lord. Adults, youth, and children alike in the faith, were strengthened to live their lives for the Glory of God being rooted and built up in Him.

Then, as the year was ending, we also experienced great sorrow. Several loved ones passed from this earth suddenly, it seemed like one after another. Many hearts were so heavy. Grief came and we held one another through this difficult season. The Lord in his great faithfulness rested upon us all once again. He came as our comforter, and our peace. As believers, we know that if the Lord tarries we will leave this earthly city just like all our dear saints did ahead of us, to go to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God just like Abraham did when God called him, (Hebrews 11:10b 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.) Though 2025 did come to a bittersweet end, may we never forget, we too can still lift our heads and declare with all our departed saints, morning is coming there’s more to the story, for in grief and in Glory, still great is His Faithfulness!
